Meet Melonie

#marano4freeholder

Hi, I’m Melonie Marano. I’m running to be your next Somerset County Freeholders.

I’ve been a resident of Green Brook, NJ for 30 years, and I was elected to the Green Brook Township Committee.

I held office for 6 years (2004 through 2009), serving as Mayor in 2009. While in office, I served on the Environmental Commission, created a Volunteer Day in Green Brook, initiated a Green Design Committee, and was the liaison to the Cultural Heritage and Historic Committee.

I am also a Certified Tax Assessor (CTA) and have served as a Commissioner on the Somerset County Tax Board since 2011. I hold a BS in Accounting from Rider University, have attended graduate MBA classes at Fordham University in New York City, and I am a proud Leadership Somerset graduate.

Currently, I serve as the Vice President of Universal Vending Management where I handle business development.

Why Melonie?

With me on your Board of Chosen Freeholders, you can be sure I’ll deliver the results I promise.

As Mayor of Green Brook, in one year, I:

Stabilized municipal taxes through grants and cost cutting

Created an Economic Development Committee

Established evening office hours of the mayor

Reinstated weddings and civil unions (pre-marriage equality)

Established a technical review committee to eliminate red tape for routine planning and zoning matters

Modernized management practices

Enacted Pay-To-Play reform.

I believe in a fair and transparent government, working in the most fiscally responsible fashion.

With my educational, professional, governmental and personal experiences, I am qualified to lead Somerset into the next decade of its distinguished history.

I believe the best leaders are those that listen, welcome others, and simply treat others as you would like to be treated.
